Exposição Institucional: Paço Imperial

Louise Ganz

Louise Ganz presents the solo exhibition "Matagal" at the Paço Imperial in Rio de Janeiro between September and November 2026.

The exhibition brings together a series of paintings inspired by the landscapes of the Cerrado and the Serra do Espinhaço mountain range in Minas Gerais. The artist uses walks through the territory, its transformations, and the marks left by mining to construct images in which nature, matter, and memory intertwine.

Created with acrylic, gouache, oil, and pigments from earth collected during her walks, the paintings incorporate fragments of the territory into the very material of the work. Mountains, vegetation, water, stones, and areas transformed by human action appear not as a landscape to be simply contemplated, but as living forces that traverse and constitute the painting.

The thicket, as Marisa Flórido Cesar suggests in her text for the exhibition, emerges as a metaphor and a power: that which grows in the cracks, which escapes control and insists on regenerating itself. Between destruction and survival, Louise Ganz proposes a close look at the relationships between the different elements that make up a territory and the possibilities of imagining new ways of inhabiting it.
