Exposição Institucional: MACRS

Nuno Ramos

Nuno Ramos presents the exhibition "Three Houses," running from August 2025 to January 2026, marking the beginning of activities at MACRS 4D.

Impacted by last year's flood, the artist proposed addressing the climatic event in the inaugural exhibition and visited the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region in the weeks following the Guaíba River flood. "The impact I felt from what I saw at that moment was profound, visceral," says Nuno.

Three life-size replicas of the houses where Ramos lived throughout his life emerge as ghosts of a past that, although familiar, is being devoured by time and the elements. Each meticulously recreated house is submerged in a mud pool located inside the gallery. These pools, which differ in color – one white, another black, and a third brown – evoke the complex layers of meaning and symbolism present in the work.

The choice of colors and textures in the mud is not random: they represent not only variations in matter, but also the different phases of life and the contrasting emotions that accompany them. The houses, submerged in this environment, seem to fight against annihilation, symbolizing the persistence of memory and the inevitable transformation imposed by time and nature.
