Goiás National Contemporary Art Salon Award

João Angelini

João Angelini is one of the five winners in the first edition of the Goiás National Contemporary Art Salon, which aims to reinsert the state of the Central-West region into the Brazilian scene, in addition to highlighting the careers and work that develop “in the hot lands of Thick". Curated by Paulo Henrique Silva, the exhibition brings together 35 artists representing all five Brazilian regions.

At the National Salon, Angelini presents two works: “After Anhanguera” and “Suberinas”.

In the series “After Anhanguera”, a white marble cube (the same ones used in the palaces of Brasília) buried in a piece of red earth taken from large areas of soybean plantations, has 3 holographic insects that orbit around this cube . All this inside a safe. The images of the insects were captured from real animals during the rainy season in Brasília.

In “Suberina”, different cerrado trees, generally resistant to natural fires, are represented on agate plates with ash and soot collected from areas of vegetation that were burned.

The images are made from ash powder using a stencil, without fixing and remain free on the surface of the plates, which are exposed vertically on a support. Soon after assembly, some of the dust comes off and the process of erasing the tree images begins.

This process of falling and erasing continues performatively throughout the days of an exhibition, varying its speed according to the movement within the gallery, reacting to air currents, the passage of people and sounds. After a few weeks, the images are no longer as defined as at the beginning of the process.
