The work of visual artist and photographer João Castilho explores, in his own words, “existential and political questions of life and death, innocence and guilt, drive and fear, survival and extinction through landscape, color , living beings and other beings”.
In Zoo, a project developed for the 2013 ZUM Photography Scholarship, it starts from a premise that it considers “simple”: the movement of savage and wild animals to be photographed in domestic environments. The intention, he states, is “to discuss the issues surrounding animality and open a door to the investigation of what I called the human mystery”.
