The exhibition "Composition in retrospect 2011-2021", a solo exhibition by artist Laura Belém on the Gallery's mezzanine, presents three works created in previous years and never exhibited collectively; They are: "Sky Notes" (2011), "Noites Carnavalescas" (2015) and "Noturno" (2015). They are works in mixed media on paper, and touch on concepts related to music, rhythm, chance, indeterminacy, movement, and silence. The work "Sky Notes", originally created for the Quiet Attentions exhibition, at the Art Tower Mito Contemporary Art Gallery, in Japan, in 2011, receives a new exhibition and reading. The title of the exhibition articulates a new look at the works on display and makes reference to the artist and composer John Cage, more specifically to his publication Composition in Retrospect, from 1992. Although Laura's work does not follow the same methodological procedures as Cage, the artist finds resonances between some elements of her own creative process and that of the composer, and borrows the title for the exhibition from this text. In order to expand the dialogue between visual arts and music, present in Laura's work, we invited contemporary percussionist and composer Charles Augusto to perform for vibraphone and electronics, in a single presentation.
