Albuquerque Contemporânea Gallery presents "Mundaréu", the first solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Froiid (1986) in its facilities. The exhibition marks a new phase for the gallery and also for the artist by establishing a dialogue with the writer, actor, journalist and playwright Plínio Marcos (1935-1999) and his "Histórias das Quebradas do Mundaréu" (1973).
"Mundaréu" explores the confabulated universe of a bar table and an imaginary crossed by references linked to the dynamics of the game, procedural research and artistic influences. Inspired by Plínio Marcus, Froiid builds a visual, sound and sensorial narrative. Covering themes such as crime, samba, RAP, football, organized fans and artificial intelligence, violence, combining references ranging from figures such as Man Ray, Raymound Queneau, Piet Mondrian and Heitor dos Prazeres.
The exhibition was conceived as a game filled with noise, but in a harmonious way. As we walk through the gallery, we find playable works, with emphasis on the installation "É Hora da Onça Beber Água" (2020), a billiard table measuring around 13 meters, which invites the public not only to touch, but also to create and play by your own rules.
With a broad approach, "Mundaréu" stands out for the dimensions of the works, the diversity of subjects, techniques and the non-linearity driven by the game. Exploring geometric compositions referenced in Brazilian constructivism, intertwined with graphic appropriations from mass culture. Froiid presents a collection of his intense output from his game-related research carried out over the last ten years. The diversity of materials and techniques is a characteristic of this world, with paintings, photographs, drawings, videos and sound installations. Froiid's works explore Brazilian cultural richness.
