She has a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from Santa Ursula, 1984. Before she was full time involved with plastic arts from the mid 1980’s on, she carried on restoration works at Roberto Marinho Foundation. Gabriela had classes on print, painting, drawing and art theory at the Visual Arts School of Parque lage. She attended courses on History of Art. In 2009 she won the FUNARTE Marcantonio Vilaça Plastic Arts Prize. She opened the Caixa Cultural of Sao Paulo Space with the exhibition Doida Disciplina (Crazy Discipline), 2009, with curatorship by Ronaldo Brito after holding the same exhibition at the Caixa Cultural in Rio de Janeiro and after launching a book of the same name through Aeroplano Editing Company from Rio de Janeiro. The book showed her most recent works at the time.  In 2008, Gabriela put up a solo exhibition at 3+1 Gallery in Lisbon, Portugal and was also awarded the Marcantonio Vilaça Prize of the Ecco Foundation (Brasilia). Still in 2008 she launched the book called Gabriela Machado (Dardo Editors, Santiago de Compostela, Spain), with a selection of critical texts and images of different phases in her career. Among her solo exhibitions held in previous years the following stand out: Desenhos (Drawings) at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro, with text by Paulo Venâncio, 2002; Centro Universitário Maria Antônia, text by Afonso Luz, São Paulo, 2002; Neuhoff Gallery, New York, with text by Robert Morgan, 2003. Her works can be found in important Brazilian collections such as the one of Gilberto Chateaubriand, José Mindlin, George Kornis, João Carlos Figueredo Ferraz, Charles Cosac, Fundação Castro Maya, Instituto Brasileiro de Arte e Cultura, Centro Cultural Cândido Mendes and Fundação Catarinense de Cultura (MASC) and, more recently, at the Fundação ECCO and the Pampulha Art Museum. Solo exhibition, Todas as cores da Estrela , at Celma Albuquerque Gallery in 2019. Exhibition, Terreirinho, at Paço Imperial in 2023 and Pintura sem fim, in Brotéria, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2023.
