Biography

Mateus Moreira, 1996, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brasil.

Lives and works in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil.

Mateus holds a degree in Visual Arts from the School of Fine Arts at UFMG in Belo Horizonte, the city where he was born and currently resides. In his pictorial investigation, he builds images that unfold from the consequences of his own experience of existence in the world. Through iconophilic discoveries, the artist transforms the political, ecological and industrial threats that surround us into lessons to reimagine the future by living in the present. In a world of dystopian sensations and constant oppression, painting is the place to resist, fight and create a place that makes you a stronger individual and prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.

In 2023, he opens in Rio de Janeiro the individual exhibition “Nêmesis” at Carpintaria (RJ), and “Conselhos” at Galeria Celma Albuquerque, in Belo Horizonte (MG). In 2022, he participates in the 8th edition of the Bolsa Pampulha Residency Program, the year in which he holds the collective exhibition “Tragédia!” at Galeria Fortes d’Aloia & Gabriel, in São Paulo (SP). He made the solo show “Desolação” at Casa Fiat de Cultura in Belo Horizonte (MG), 2021. He was awarded at the 12th Salão Artistas Sem Galeria, in São Paulo (SP), 2021. In 2020, he opened his first solo exhibition “Resiliências” , at Fundação de Arte de Ouro Preto (MG), and was awarded at the 9th Salão de Itabirito (MG) in the same year, among other group exhibitions.
