Sculptor, draftsman, graphic artist and set designer. Waltercio stands out for his eclectic and original work in different media (drawings, prints, set designs, sculptures, costumes). In 1964, he studied painting with Ivan Serpa (1923-1973) at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro and began his career in the 60s. In 1975, he had his first solo exhibition at the Assis Chateaubriand Art Museum of São Paulo (Masp). In the 1980s he began creating installations and sculptures and took part in the 17th São Paulo International Biennial.

 

He has taken part in exhibitions at the Kanaal Art Foundation (Belgium); Stedelijk Museum (Holland); Centre d'Art Contemporain (Switzerland); Museum of Modern Art (USA); Josef Haubrich Kunsthalle (Germany); Museo del Barrio (USA); Walker Art Center (USA); São Paulo Biennial; Venice Biennial; Documenta; Mercosul Biennial; among others. His work is part of the world's leading collections, such as the Centre Pompidou (France), Museum of Modern Art (USA), Neue Galerie (Germany); Museums of Modern Art in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Instituto Inhotim, among others. Among the awards he has received is the Mário Pedrosa Award from the ABCA for his solo show at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro in 1993.
